***

I have never been one for mornings,
preferring to lie in bed
and pretend to sleep
rather than get up and face the day.

This morning is no exception
as I tumble out of bed
and visit the bathroom,
before blearily making some coffee.

I trudge back to the bedroom,
sipping the much needed caffeine
and rubbing the crusty remains of sleep
from my befuddled eyes.

I climb back into bed,
accidentally waking it's occupant
who blinks sleepily at me
and struggles to sit up.

She smiles
and steels a drink from my mug,
silencing my protests
with a sleepy kiss.

As the kiss deepens
and the coffee gets discarded,
I suddenly discover
how wonderful early mornings can be.
