Vignette Rating: G Spoilers: Redux Author's note: This is written from Scully's point of view. What Will Tomorrow Bring? *********************** The days blur with the smell of antiseptic and the stiff rustle of hospital sheets, although I can't say that I am completely unaware of the passage of time. This truth is reinforced each time I feel the sharp sting of my intravenous line tugging against my blankets as I raise my hand to the throbbing point of pressure on my forehead. Then I realize that it has been four hours since the last dose of my pain medication. The harshest reality for me in this, is that the doctor in me has been pushed aside by a woman desperate for pain relief. I no longer remember what I am being given. I have fought before and come back from where there should have been no return. I had believed that this would be no different, that despite the odds, and with Mulder's help, that I would make my triumphant return to work and to myself. However, late last evening, my knight in shining armor showed up in mourning clothes. He crept in quietly in the dark to stand over my bedside, but even in my medicated sleep, the soft sounds of his sorrow reached me. All I could do for him at the moment was to be there for him, to be something solid, although silent, to touch. My fear is that soon, too soon, I will no longer be around to do so. Quietly I think in the few moments that allow me to do so, and I stare at the and the bright glare of florescent lighting on the stark white walls and I wonder, for Mulder as much as for me, what will tomorrow bring? -Semantics
