SUMMARY: Mulder decides to take Scully to a funpark. :-D

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"I can't believe you.  This is the crime scene??!?  'Al's Fun Park and Camping
Resort'?  Mulder?  Stop laughing and answer me!"
Dana Scully watched her partner as he laughed and snorted like he hadn't in
years.  It had been awhile since Fox Mulder had seen his partner outrage on
him so.
"Al's is the place to be, Scully.  C'mon, look at all the people.  It's time
to relax a bit, have some fun.  We are allowed to have some fun, you know.
Haven't you seen the commercials for this place?  'Al's Fun Park and Camping
Resort, so much fun it'll make you snort!'...You know, 'snort'?  Laugh really
hard?..."  Fox Mulder watched his partner glare at him with an icy stare he
knew all too well.
"You told me we were going to investigate something highly important!"
"Yeah, they have this really cool water ride, where they take you through
this water rapids course..."  Dana turned around and started heading for the
car.
"Oh, please let me take you.  You'll have some fun, I guarantee it."  Mulder
stopped her before she could get any further.
She closed her eyes and sighed.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The day had gone by in a whirlwind. To Dana's dismay, she actually had to
admit she did have some fun. Crashing the hell out of Mulder's bumper car...
ah, the highlight of the day. She made sure he had whiplash before he left
the ride. Dana smiled to herself as she walked with Mulder through the
park again. It was getting dark, and the moon had reclaimed its territory
in the deep blue heavens. There was a gentle breeze that made Dana's nose
tingle with the aromas of popcorn, cotton candy, and summer, all rolled into
one. She sighed. If only every day could feel like this...

Mulder took Dana's hand and started towards the Ferris Wheel.

"Mulder...I...let's go home...I don't like...Mulder..."

"What's wrong? How come you don't like Ferris Wheels?" He stopped.

"I, well. Um. I don't like heights." Scully avoided Mulder's eyes and
examined the front of his polo shirt instead. He brought her face up so he
could look directly into her eyes.

"What do you mean you don't like heights? We ride planes all the time, we
end up..."

"That's entirely different." She noticed his smiling eyes were shining in
the moonlight.

"Let's go then. I can get you over this fear." Mulder began to drag Dana
once more to the Ferris Wheel.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There she sat.  Her hands gripped the metal seat as tightly as she could
muster.  Mulder sat on the opposite side, and was trying not to laugh at the
sight of his partner, with her eyes tightly squeezed shut.
"Are we done yet?"
"Dana, open your eyes."  The violent shake of her head indicated quite well
that she wasn't going to.
Mulder, breathing in the cool, crisp air of the night sky, slid over to the
other side of the cage they were sitting in.  He gently slid his arms around
Dana's waist and pulled her in close.  He felt her relax a little.
"Dana, I have you in my arms.  I want you to open your eyes.  It's beautiful
up here.  You trust me, don't you?  I have you, and I'm not gonna let go."
He smiled as his partner's eyes slowly but surely opened up.  As the Ferris
Wheel started to move again, their cage stopped at the very top.  Mulder felt
Dana tense up with fear initially, but she relaxed as she felt Mulder's arms
encircle her even more.  She breathed in and sighed as she stared out at the
cloudless raven sky.
"See, that wasn't so bad now, was it?"
Scully rested her head on Mulder's shoulder and smiled.
"Thank you."
"No problem.  You know, I always wondered what would happen if the axle broke
in half, or something like that....like in that movie, '1941'...did you ever
see that..."
"Mulder, do you want to live to see the ground again?"
