When Even The Trees Move
by Sue

We're alone and it's the creepiest it's ever felt, to
date. Earlier in the day, Mulder said he saw those
eerie ripplings through the grass, but I sure haven't.
The *only* thing I've seen is the sun sink lower amidst
these towering trees, and Mulder, now an abject slave
to his exhaustion, is nestled in my arms, cajoling me
to sing him something.

Why, for all that's rational, am I here? I should have
traveled on with my fellow agents to that seminar, if
that look in his eyes hadn't 'snookered' me. Oh, man. . .

But, no. I don't ditch, and I wasn't going to start
then.

"Aw, c'mon, Scully. Sing me a lullaby underneath
these beautiful stars."

He's never heard me sing, and if I have my way, now
won't be the first time.

"Oh, Mulder. . ."

"Oh, pleeeese, Scullee. . ."

I close my eyes, take a moderate breath, and feel
him shiver, while his hands tighten upon my forearms.
Racking my brain, I mine it for the few popular tunes
I know.

"Scul?"

Softly, "'...Jeremiah was a bullfrog...'"
