Enjoy :O) @###############@ Any other day she would wisk off her shoes, carrying them carefully in her arms and tip-toe in her socks or bare feet into the house at dawn, avoiding her mother at all costs. But, like she was realizing fast, tonight was unlike any other night. Now she kept her noisy boots tied tightly as she walked into the den where her mother sat, studying her usual medical reports. She didn't lift her head or even blink at her daughter's presence. "Mom," she spoke firmly, willing the doctor to notice her for once and not ignore her as usual. She didn't. "Mother." Louder this time, anger and persistance lacing her tongue. "Don't talk to me, Samantha. I'm busy." Fox shook her head, annoyed. "No! I *will* talk, and you will, too! I deserve to know, and you need to start telling me!" Her chest heaved and she stomped her boot against the hardwood floor. Her mother merely pulled off her glasses and wiped her eyes with the heels of her hands. Decades later, she turned and stared, exhausted. "All right, Sam. If you want to know, I'll tell you." Fox nodded her head acceptingly and searched for a question. Dozens swarmed her mind, but she couldn't grasp any individual one. Finally, her eyes widened and she looked at her mother pointedly. "Why didn't you ever tell me Fox Mulder was my father?" She expected her mother to block up and turn away, like she was so accustomed to seeing. She surprised her yet again. "The books, the stories that talk about Mulder portray him as if he were the Messiah, having everyone believe him in every aspect. That's how you see him, because that's what they've taught you. Noone believed, Sam. It took seven years for even me to believe." She looked up at her young daughter, so much alike her lost love in his search for the Truth. "I didn't want you to know him as a god, but as *him*." She didn't argue. Without bothering to process her newfound information, she opened her mind for another inquiry. This moment was unlike any other she'd ever experienced, and to waste it was to give up. She would never give up. "Who's Samantha?" "Your aunt." Her brow furrowed in confusion. "He had a sister?!" "She's dead, has been for years. He spent his life looking for her, but she had died years before we met." "Where is he now?" This scared Dana Scully. Her eyes swelled and a tear fell down her pale cheek. She didn't answer, but held her soft head in her hands, weeping soundlessly. Her daughter ran from the room, her mother's condition more than proof enough of the cripled man's words. She had been lied to, broken apart, yanked free of every last thread of hope, only to be offered a second chance. It had taked so long, but it wasn't over, not just yet. He was out there somewhere--her father. Not Fox, Mulder, but *her father*. And she was going to find him. @###############@ Ok... it's short... sorry...
