The Xena Files: Soulmates by Danny Wels FBI Headquarters The Next Day Mulder entered Skinners office. Skinner closed the file he was reading and took off his glasses. "You wanted to see me sir." Mulder said. "Yes, please take a seat Mulder." Skinner answered. Mulder sat down in the comfortable chair in front of Skinners desk. "I'm sorry Mulder but...." Skinner didn't continue. "It's Scully isn't it?" Mulder asked. Skinner looked down at the floor. "What's happened to her?" Mulder asked. "Actually her body hasn't been recovered yet but...." Skinner couldn't continue because Mulder interupted him. "Body." he said. "All the agents of the North Dakota police station have shot each other for an unknown reason and the body of Scully hasn't been found yet." Skinner said. "Did they find the body of this woman?" Mulder asked while he handed the photo to Skinner. Skinner examined the photo for a while and gave it back. "She doesn't look familiar to me." Skinner said. "Look sir I have to go to North Dakota and investigate the event at the police station and Scully's disappearence." Mulder insisted. "I'm sorry Mulder I can't let you go." Skinner said. "Why not?" Mulder asked. "Don't make me order you to stay here Mulder." Skinner said. "I have to go sir! Lives are at stake here." Mulder said trying to convince Skinner to let him go. "Look Mulder I just can't let you go. We've already lost one of our best agents I don't want to lose another one." Skinner explained. Then Mulder noticed the cigarette in the ashtray on Skinners desk. He got out of his chair. "It's him again isn't it!" Mulder said. "Who?" Skinner replied. "Cancer Man!" Mulder said. "Look Mulder if you go you'll be on your own. I won't be there to back you up if you get in trouble I won't even know that you be there. So think about it." Skinner said. "I'm going sir. Scully has risked her life and job some many times to safe my ass so I think it's time I will do the same for her." Mulder said and he left the office. Skinner sat there for a moment and just kept worrying about Mulder. You don't know what you're getting involved with he kept thinking then he made the decision he would travel with Mulder to North Dakota to find Scully and to find out what Mulder meant with 'Life are at stakes'. Scully opened her eyes and saw that she was in a cave with torches on the wall. She looked next to her and saw that Xena already got up and began to examine their surroundings. "Where are we?" Scully asked. Xena stopped examining the skeletons on the wall and turned around to face Scully. "I'm not sure but I think we are in the underworld." Xena said. "Underworld?" Scully asked while she moved towards Xena. "I've always thought that you guys where strange by the way you dress and behave but I never guessed that you didn't know about the underworld." Xena said. "I've seen a lot of strange things since I've been assigned to Mulder but since I've met you things really started to get weird so just tell me what the underworld is will you." Scully said. "Well this is the place where everyone goes to when he or she dies. Men are brought here by the dog of Hades and the women are brought to a place what everybody considers paradise." Xena explained. "But why are whe here then? Am I dead?" Scully said. "I think Hera dropped us here and I don't know if we are dead but we can get out of here." Xena said. "How?" Scully asked imediately. "When Hercules lost his wife he also came down here to search for her. He made a deal with Hades that if he captured his dog they would be allowed to leave this place." Xena said. "And how do we find Hades." Scully said. Xena raised her shoulders "I think the best thing to do right now is to find out where this opening leads to." Xena said while she pointed to an opening in the wall on the east-side of the room. Scully followed Xena into the opening and they crawled through it for some minutes until Xena suddenly stopped. "What's wrong." Scully whispered. Xena didn't answer the question but pointed to the beam of light emerging from a crack in the wall. "What about it." Scully said. "Don't touch it if you want to get out of here alive." Xena said. "But we're already dead." Scully said. "Look we don't know if we are dead or alive so we can't take the risk of finding it out the hard way." Xena said. They managed to get past the beam of light and crawled further into the darkness. After an hour they saw an opening in the distance. When they got out they where outside in beautifull place which could be considered as paradise for women. There where women all around them. Some where swimming while others where just lying in the grass. "Hades has to be here somewhere." Xena said. "How do you know." Scully replied. "Hercules told me that last week." Xena said. "So there are the soulmates." sounded a male voice from behind. Scully and Xena both turned to see who was speaking to them. "Hades!" Xena said. "The one and only." Hades replied. "Wait a minute! What did you mean with soulmates?" Scully asked. "You'll find out soon enough but first come with me and then you need to go back to the land of the living." Hades said while he walked to his palace at the end of the gold path. Xena and Scully followed him and where treated like queens in his palace. One hour later. "So that's what I want you to prevent." Hades said. Xena and Scully both said that they understood everything he told them and that they where ready to return. Hades took a candle from the table and ordered them to look into the flame. A opening appeared leading back into the police station. The two jumped into the opening and fell on the floor. Scully got up and noticed that her hands and clothes where covered with blood of the dead bodies spread through the staion. While Xena stayed calm Scully had trouble remaining calm although she had seen a lot of gory things. They heared footsteps aproaching so they both got behind a table to see who was coming. "Mulder, Skinner." Scully said surprised when she saw the both of them entering the room. Mulder and Skinner both stopped and just kept standing there. "Is something wrong. The two of you act like I'm some kind of ghost." Scully said. "Well I didn't expect to find you here." Mulder said, "They told us that everybody here was dead and that they hadn't recovered your body yet." Mulder said. Scully pulled Xena up and said "Look this is the woman we where looking for. Her name is Xena and the four of us really need to talk." Scully said. Mulder and Skinner immediately pulled their guns and pointed it at Xena. "You're under arrest for multiple murder." Skinner said. "Look boss we don't have the time for this. The fate of all men on the world are at stake." Scully said.
