Notes at end. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ The monitors beeped a steady pulse as I hold our newborn son and speak to my partner. "Scully, I remember the first time we shared a long, sloppy kiss. It was a month after I returned to you. "When I first returned and was still recovering, we circled each other carefully. We didn't know what to do with each other. Your pregnancy had added a new dimension to our relationship. I was deliriously happy for you. For us. "I had missed too much with you. How I wanted to have been there for you, to have supported you. I wish I could have guarded you from the cold, curious eyes who don't know us. What should have been a time of new discovery to you was overshadowed by something horrible that I take full responsibility for. "After we shared that kiss, our first real kiss, you told me I was your new roommate. Apparently dead men don't have addresses. The only thing lost on the way to storage was a box of underwear, you told me. "I have a feeling that I know where they really are. "Did you know when I left for Oregon, I wrote you a letter? I put all my feelings for you in it. Your light, your smile made me a better man. I'm lost without you by my side. I don't know what made me write it. I'm glad I did. I finally got the courage to tell you how I feel, even if you were never going to read it. "I didn't leave the letter in my apartment because it has grown eyes and ears so many times; I was afraid my apartment would grow arms and legs this time and take it. I gave it to the guys for safe keeping and made them promise not to open it. I threatened them with their lives if I returned to find it open. I wanted to give it to you as our first anniversary present; I wanted to marry you when I got back. I thought it would be appropriate. "The first time Frohike came to see me, he just blurted out that the letter was lost. Then a week later he informed me that he found it in the refrigerator, under a plate of left over huevos rancheros. I think he was relieved I didn't have to kill him. "I was looking through your old photo albums the other day. I found a picture of you and Melissa under the cherry blossoms. The date stamp on it was for one month before she died. You two looked so happy." "Excuse me, Mr. Mulder?" The nurse stepped into the room, interrupting our conversation. "We have to adjust Ms. Scully's feeding tube and turn her over. If you want to put the baby in the bassinet, you could help me." FINIS Notes: Thanks to Amy for beta! This was an elements/improv fic for IWTB. The elements were: 1. Mulder's reaction to Scully's pregnancy 2. Cherry blossoms 3. A long open mouthed kiss 4. Lost undergarments 5. Photo Albums 6. A lost letter found I have no clue when cherry trees bloom so I don't tell me I'm wrong (even if I am)! I also have no clue as to why a woman would go into a coma after giving birth. My sister, a nurse, suggested and aneurysm or hemorrhaging but I didn't want to get into "medicalese." I just wanted to write simple story.
